Bird: anybody here?

Stormbow: This place is so dead, no one even handles this group regularly.

Stormbow: You can't play this game. It's in some kind of pre-alpha testing or something.

Windy: Hello. My name is Windy. I am a pub owner. Can I get you something to drink?

Windy: How does one play this game?

brom: how do play

Stormbow: Wow, ok, so no one actually uses this group anymore...

heroJ: hey

LadyKhaine: *sigh* the ordering of the replies to topics is still stuffed :( When can we get it fixed, please?

Haratu: well aged... mouldy hair? gone white like a well aged bree? hehe.

LadyKhaine: *wonders just what 'well aged' means* Deeva, how long did you spend in a cave aging?

Haratu: hi there, just joined up... see you guys more often.

Melanieshaman: Deeva sounds like me :)

Deeva: Got room for a new member? I am a well aged female gamer who loved to stay young at heart =)

Mouglue: Moo

LadyKhaine: ok, this is now broken :( Ridrith's post in April is above my March posts? WTF?

LadyKhaine: ok, now the times are really wrong. my 16-Mar post is below my 20-Mar posts

LadyKhaine: Why are the times local to the user? Shouldn't they be local to the server?

Berek: Hmm, I see your post at the bottom, that would appear to be correct. It goes off of how forums work.

LadyKhaine: I replied first after your post, but now I'm at the bottom

LadyKhaine: Does being at GMT+11 cause this somehow?

LadyKhaine: What's the maxinum of characters allowed here?

LadyKhaine: Why does it drop my long shoults with no error message or warning?

LadyKhaine: The replies to your topic seem to be sorted incorrectly.

LadyKhaine: wai! So here, in RUG, what I'd like to see in Alganon? Oh my :) *giggles*

Zaurius: Greetings, Alganon!

Berek: To the roleplayers united group, of course! :). Discuss here roleplaying and what you'd like to see in Alganon support for it.

LadyKhaine: no, I go at the top, but at the bottom of my comments. Now that is strange

LadyKhaine: Welcome to what though?

LadyKhaine: Welcome to what though?

LadyKhaine: Ahh, top down, not bottom up.

LadyKhaine: morning :)

Cuthbert: howdy do.

What are your favorite roleplaying games?

To start us off with our first topic, what roleplaying games have you enjoyed the most? They don't have to be exclusive to MMOs either... for instance, I really loved playing Baldur's Gate, particularly the original.

First and best experience was DAoC

My first RP experience, and still the BEST experience I have ever had was Dark Age of Camelot.  I would still be playing if the community were still there.

mine

WoW was one until everyone never let you into RP and it got boring
Diablo 2 was a great RP game, but I never felt I was in a RP game, just a stab slash pew game
Balders Gate really got me going, I loved that game so much it felt like I was actually in the game, best RP game evah
I'm hoping alganon is a good RP game, but I won't judge the gameplay and bring it down because the RP may be bad if it is, which it wont be cos I got all you fine people to RP with! -cheer-

Role Master

Role Master was from far my favorite paper role playing game. Pure and perfect rules for this game.

Baldur's Gate, Never winter night, Ablivion and Fallout 3 was and still are my best "Stand alone" games ever.

As for MMO's, I was a addicted WoW player Until the first expension came out... then the second expension was just to boring.

Horizon had a great crafting system.

My RPGs

I took a long hiatus from RPGs (computer or pnp) before deciding to give Diablo a try.  It was fun but what really brought me back was Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale series and NWN.  It made me remember the days when my friends and I would stay up till dawn finishing up our RP sessions.

As for MMOs, I had such a wonderful time in City of Heroes and there was plenty of roleplay on my server (Virtue).  I lasted well over two years in that game before heading back to WoW.  I'm still playing WoW and even though it gets a bad rap, there are a couple of servers that have a large dedicated roleplaying population.  I'm having a great time.  I'm hoping Alganon doesn't lose sight of roleplayers.

My Fav RPG's

Star Wars Galaxies, Pre-NGE... after that it has just been a train wreck. Horizons, for its uniqueness and crafting system... however I will always wonder and wish I could have seen what it was supposed to be, instead of what it got hacked down to.

WoW is a good game, but not a good roleplaying experience for me.

My favorite table top games are Robotech and Rifts Atlantis. Hours upon hours of fun with a great GM :)

Good old RP times

Best MMORPG i ever participated in was when I used to play Eve:online when it first started, I was well known back then and had my name mentioned several tiems in the news. For single player games, I think Arcanum was probably one of the best.

While I tried to roleplay in WoW and had some awesome characters (I even had a warlock that gave birth over a full 9 months) I found that Blizzard stopped encouraging RP and I started finding it very hard to do.

Rpgs

Well, i suppose you can put WoW on my list only because i played for 4 years!  I finally pryed myself away, and play WAR now (and i love it!)  I also play RoM - which is OK but needs alot of work.  Also i like the diablo and baldur's gate franchises.  I am mostly a PnP rper... ie D&D, Gurps, Rifts, ... also, not quite in the same vien but i love TTG ala Warhammer and warhammer 40k, warzone, etc

Hello all.

Hello all, just thought I'd contribute to the post as well.  I think some of the better RPG games I enjoyed, and still do enjoy to this day are:  Threads of Fate, Final Fantasy games on up until 9, Dungeon Siege, Diablo II, KoTOR I, and II.   When it comes to MMORPGs though, I'd have to say World of Warcraft, despite it's reputation once you find a good group of people to play/work with through out the game, I've found myself to really be enjoying the whole thing.  Have been since 04!

It's good to see other RPers are interested in Alganon, looks like it's going to be a great game.

MMOG's I loved, part 2

9Dragons is the game I miss the most strangely, my character class just clicked with me.  I was a Hybrid there, I could hit, nuke and heal well enough.  Not as well as a dedicated class, but well enough for me.  I loved it :)  The character animations were beautiful and the world design was pretty, though the mobs were so repetitive :(  It was so stupidly grindy and the skills were pointless after a while (in the end, the best attack skill was bog standard basic axe, not even a clan specific axe skill, just commoner axe.  The high end axes were uber powerful and blew away anything else)  Then Acclaim just broke it :(  Pity.

Actual MMOG's I liked, part 1 (damn 1024 char limit)

For MMOG's my best would be LotRO.  The world was so believable :)  The inns that ou could do into and find a bed in a room meant that I could believe that I could live there.  I could have a place to sneep during the night.  The houses you could go into, crazy cat lady's rooms *giggles*  It helped that I found a nice RP group and built myself a happy psychopath named Iori :)  She had a reason and everything, it even explained why her clothes and daggers were never blood stained at the end.  I even dreamt of that place :)  It was that good a world.

RPG's I like

My favorite are the KoToR series by far, but I also enjoy Mount & Blade. I never played Baldur's Gate, but everyone talks about how good it is. I just never got into those RPG's that required you to control and build an entire party of characters with such strict rules as DnD has.

I liked SWG for RPing, but the thing about MMO RPing is that no one does it the same and immersion is easily broken, whereas in single player games the immersion never breaks and the NPC's are always in character. It'd be my wet dream if a MMO community could decide on a set of RPing parameters and rules to abide by and devs that actually enforced them. In SWG for example, you'd see Jedi running around using force powers they wouldn't know and broadcasting who they are, even though they're being hunted.

RPGs

Hmm,
My favorite single player CRPG's have been Fallout 2, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, KotOR I and II, and maybe Daggerfall. Those are the ones that have kept me entertained for years (a decade in the case of Fallout 2 and Daggerfall) and never seem to get old.

When it comes to MMO's, hmm... Everquest and the original Star Wars Galaxies are the only two in which I've had really memorable roleplaying experiences. I haven't really found anything among the new MMO's that matches the fun (roleplaying and otherwise) that I had in those games (although that might be because I no longer have the time I once did to invest in the new generation of MMO's).

MMOG's I loved

NWN was good :)  Though I hated the companions, damn bastards sucking my xp :(  Really not the sort of people I'd want with me anyway.  Pool of Radiance was nice, especially once I worked out how to hack the characters.  I never did the maps in the supposed order, I did Sokal Keep about L7, so the screen was filled with orc after orc after orc, nothing but orcs as far as you could see (literally) and nothing but orcs either.  So my delayed blast fireballs from 2 L7 mages sorted those out pretty quickly *giggles*  I wonder what it was supposed to be like at the appropriate level.
