Contrary to popular belief, my name isn't Dan J.
Danj was a random character name that I got in some game or other that was short and memorable, so I kept it.
I thought I'd post my perceptions of Alganon and MyAlganon from the moment I started.
It's been my opinion, based on all the other MMOs I've played, that a good game is more than just good code. The dev's design philosophy, the community relations team, and the way customer service is handled really determines where I'm gonna plunk my money these days. I've played too many games that were the equivalent of a pretty girl with sneer, fun to look at, but once you got to know them....
I was brought to http://www.myalganon.com/signup first and registered easily enough, but from there I had a hell of a time finding out what this whole thing was about. I hadn't heard of it before, and wasn't quite sure what to expect.
With no obvious direct link from MyAlganon to the Alganon site I wasn't sure whether this was just a social network or there was some game involved. There were screenshots, and logically I knew there was an MMO around here somewhere, but without a lot of info about the game itself, registering for MyAlganon felt like I had just accepted a blind party invite, without even a "r u tank?".
I did manage to find my way to the www.alganon.com site by simply entering it in my browser window, finally. I wonder if I just came in at the wrong page and there was more introduction that I missed.
MyAlganon
I like what
I see so far of the social aspect. It shows a dedication to community
and communication from devs and officials right off the bat, and thats
an important aspect of a well made game. I keep running into blank
pages, though, and I'm not sure where I should report those in the
forum.
I'll take a long look at the official site and give my impressions in a day or so.
Hi Danj thanks for the feedback. I'm part of JD's team and will be addressing some of the issues you have mentioned in the next update. And thanks again for signing up!
I agree with you as far as a good game also involving good customer service and community realtions Danj. So far I have really liked the responsivness of the staff from the Quest. Jdsmith just something to point out it seems some, like in this blog, responses are getting cut off on the right side. Like the margin for the responses is set to close in while the page is still trying to show it at a larger margin.
Greetings Danj!
Thanks for the feedback; the blank pages here and there are actually when the site has encountered an error. For some reason my nifty error handler isn't displaying the pretty error page with a link back to where you were; I'll get that corrected in the near future.
My team has been concentrating on fixing all the little issues being found now that we have 300 some odd people pounding on the site instead of just those of us involved in programming it. I truly appreciate all the people reporting problems via the 'Report a Problem' link located in the footer while logged in.
Once the Library, Character, and Guild integration features begin to come into the site it will start to feel more integrated into the game of ALGANON. Unfortunately, for now, I can only ask that you to be patient a bit longer. We felt that launching the core community system as early as possible was the best choice so we could begin interacting with everyone and getting vital feedback.
Best regards,

-Howdy Danj and welcome to MyAlganon. Certainly appreciate the comments on your initial assessments. I think the forums (link provided in the top-page menu) have dedicated areas for tech issues, MyAlganon feedback, etc.
Other than the link above to the forums, you are certainly right about no link to the game from here to get folks interested. There is a gameplay video on the front page, but i think that a link to the game site itself that is more prominently displayed (instead of at page bottom where it is now) would be a useful addition.
Your thoughts here are spot-on, looking forward to reading what you have to say about Alganon after taking a look around. Welcome, hope you enjoy your stay.

Well, I agree with this man.
Site Navigation...is the key here I do believe.
Since I wrote this over a month ago, there have been daily, consistent improvements to the site. I have never seen a bug I reported last longer than a day, and JD's team is very good about suggestions and recommendations.
I know they are still working on quite a bit, and have plans to make everything more accessible, but some of it just hasn't been written yet.
Yes I agree if they focus on their game as well as MyAlagnon is comming along we will have a winner on our hands
Yeah it looks alot like a social network, and I really don't like those for personal reasons. I thought this game would be alot like World of Warcraft that's why I thought I'd give it a go, but so far all I've come across is the ridiculous social pages. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some douche locked up in his room playing video games his whole life, but I REALLY hate social sites. I guess I'm going to wait to get the Beta thing running then we'll see.
I would certainly like to know how much this game is going to cost. The faq sends you to a different page which basically initiates an add campaign to sell you the game. How much does it cost? What is the monthly fee? Will you have an online store?
Transparency = honesty
You are an insider to the community :), as you have provided valuable feedback that is being implemented, and are a upstanding member of the community in general. Thanks Danj!
