The Rising of the Dawn
by Nevena on 02/14/2010

A chill, soft breeze swirled the soft layer of dust atop the rocky outcropping, giving birth to a tiny dirtdevil that glowed a gentle hue of rose under the clouded twilight. The newly-formed elemental spun a few moments before dissipating back to the rock, leaving only a faint pattern in the dust that was quickly scattered by one footstep, then another, and another. The climb was long and arduous, but at last the pinnacle had been reached.

Though the loneliness of the outcropping had been dispelled by the presence of Kujix, the silence remained. A large, gold-threaded blanket was spread over the rock, upon which then knelt all but the golden-haired healer who stood watch under the gently glowing clouds. Those kneeling grouped together to complete their work, their minds clear though their hands stained: among them, Vjek's with ink and soot, Jayaha's with juice and grass, Yourlife's with blood.

Working wordlessly, Den and Jayaha poured a glimmering brew into a crystal bowl, followed by a sparkling powder. The liquid bubbled and fizzed away, then slowly was replaced by dew made irridescent by the sky's soft glow.

The dew was then divided into two separate vials. One vial was used by Lygar and Arcane to season a swath of reddish hide, which was then supple enough for Dizzle and Sortiarius to embroider with the powerful symbols of magical heraldry. The remaining dew was given to Vjek and Zaqari to polish, then affix the worked pieces of sunsteel that gleamed with the power of the combined faith of their guild.

The Cloak of the Dawn was then spread out upon a slate slab, awaiting the first clear rays of sun to complete the enchantment that would enable it to harness the power needed to quell the rising storm. The healer Nevena raised her arms to the horizon, speaking a prayer to the gods to bless their endeavor, to save the world that had worshiped them so sincerely.

Those assembled below who had also given their blood and sweat to bring about that morning also turned their gaze to the horizon. The air was felt to almost crackle with the energy raised by the power poured out by Cinae, Zaboo, Nonpoint, Olle, Kamaile, Jalvith, Shakur, Wileria, Watever and dozens of others as they awaited the answer of the gods.

Finally, a stronger breeze stirred the air. The clouds at last parted and lit up into a brilliant sheen of gold that was reflected on the cloak as the first rays of sun broke into the day.

The Dawning, at long last, had come.

Yet behind the golden glow was the distant rumbling from within the thick clouds that announced the impending breaking of the storm. The lords of the storm were assembling their power, though their preparations would certainly come to naught. Soon they were sure to meet their doom, After the Dawn.
