I think everybody has read it somewhere when a new MMORPG is announced. They ALWAYS compare it with WoW.
The game has cartoony looks, they wanna look like WoW.
That crafting system looks a lot like WoW.
I really, really hate it when people do that. Please people if you think WoW the best MMORPG there is, why bother playing an other game. Offcourse developers look at other succesful games. Even WoW does that. Every game has something that has ben thought of before in other games. I always say: "Better to steal something good then a bad idea thought by your own."
So please people stop comparing games with each other, and more important, STOP WHINING ABOUT IT!!!
I agree with you to some extent. I mean, people overuse WoW in comparisons. I've seen videos of games that have nothing to do with WoW, but just because they are 3D and have that common third-person view there is always some idiot to come and say something like "it's a WoW clone" without even going after the features of the game. It is true that many MMORPGs have copied several features from WoW (which WoW probably copied from other games as well), since WoW is known as the most successful MMORPG to date (money-wise). But still, some people use it far too much in such comparisons that it gives me the impression that they've never really played anything other than WoW.

Well lets consider it this way...
How else would you make a MMORPG? There really is no way these days of making a MMORPG that isnt similar to WoW... So you may just have to deal with it, haha.
WoW wasn't the first MMO. WoW is based on other MMORPG's as well but you never heard that when WoW was released.
I've just uninstalled Alganon Beta, couldn't find an easy feedback way to producers, so posting here. It's somewhat related anyway.
I first noticed Alganon at a MMO site/upcoming games section (was just quit wow :P was a hardcore raider for 2 years).
I looked like a WoW clone at first glance. Screenshots and everything. So I decided to wait for Beta, just to be fair on my opinion. After playing the beta, I'm now sure its a complete WoW clone.
While respecting the effort of producers, I just wonder;
While there are other games like AOC and WAR (tried both too) which has pretty original ideas yet couldn't reach 1/10 of WoW player population, what is the big idea to make a WoW clone?
I really waited for a good original MMO :(

@Casusrobot. If you are looking for a new type of MMO you should try Aion. And perhaps you can wait for Tera. These are both games that tries to be different.
-This happens across consumer items, but none have such a feverish result as computer games and MMOs in particular. I always wonder why people bother going to message boards/forums to games they will never play just to say "you suck" then leave. The internet age has set back our grasp of the languages of the world and our understanding of words such as tact and diplomacy a few hundred years at best.
